THE ORGANIZATION
Musica was founded in January 1990 by a group of 8 singers who had sung together previously at a Christmas party. Realizing they all enjoyed singing together, they wanted to find a means to continue to do so. Within a year the group expanded to sixteen singers, and a subscription concert series was launched. The group became a registered non-profit organization in 1992–able to receive tax deductible donations because of their 501c(3) classification by the State of Ohio.
Initially, all music and artistic matters were conducted by group consensus, but the rehearsal-by-committee process quickly became a stumbling block. They invited Dr. John Leman of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music to coach the group. John became Musica’s first Artistic Director in 1993 and continued until 1999.
Musica dedicated it’s first CD, Great Day, to John and thanks him for his support and encouragement. Musica was fortunate that Dr. Robert Jones of the University of Dayton filled the Artistic Director role in the spring of 1999. Bob continued to enhance the group’s performance level until the end of the 2010-2011 season.
Dr. Adam Con joined us as Artistic Director for the 2012-2013 season. Ushering in swift and sweeping changes, Dr. Con enhanced the sound and performance level of the group, adding a level of theatricality the group had been missing.
For the 2013-2014 season, Musica welcomes Michael Fuchs as our new Artistic Director.
